Project 365 - Week Twelve

This week I took some photos of my lovely little sister in law (to be). I quickly grabbed her for some photos when I was over at her parents' house, as I knew she probably wouldn't mind posing for me!

The light was lovely as it was early evening and the sun was low in the sky. Perfect for some natural light portraits.

Self Portrait Challenge!

Self portraits are difficult! Set up is time consuming, with a lot of to-ing and fro-ing in front of and behind the camera. You also have no idea how you look in front of the camera, so there is a lot of running to and from it, to see what the shots look like and whether or not you're actually in focus! This process is further complicated if using the self timer mode on the camera, as there is a greater chance that you won't be in focus and you may find that you're not in the frame at all.

After a few failed attempts I decided to purchase a remote control for my camera, to save myself from some of the running about and to make it easier to focus. After quite a few attempts (60 in total!), this is what I managed:

I found focusing tricky at first, but started to get the hang of it after a while. Post it notes would have been handy for this exercise, not only to use as a focal point, but also to frame the shot. Instead, I made do with my Blackberry as there was not a post it note in sight at home!

After I had set the camera to focus on my Blackberry, I then tried to get into the frame, replacing the phone with myself. No easy feat to begin with!

I'm not used to being in front of the camera and am far more comfortable behind it, but I hope to learn something from it by effectively walking myself through a portrait.

Project 365 - Week Eleven

This week, as I had a couple of days off and the weather was nice, Chris and I decided to revisit lovely Whitstable. You may remember that we visited a few weeks ago, but there was a beer festival that particular day, so the place was heaving!

Well, it wasn't a huge amount quieter to be honest! Not quite festival bustling, but still fairly busy for a Monday! It must just be very popular, and I can understand why. I've fallen a bit in love with the place.

We had an absolutely delicious lunch of battered king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and chips at the Crab & Winkle. It was lovely sitting outside in the sunshine, right by the harbour. I'd thoroughly recommend it as the food is scrumptious. Plus, it's very reasonably priced. We had a very generous portion of the king prawns! Can't wait to go back!

I was determined to find the Whitstable beach huts during our visit, as I've seen quite a few photos of them on various websites, and they make for interesting photos. I wasn't disappointed. I really like the bright colours and would love to do a photoshoot there at some point.

Project 365 - Week Ten

This week's photo was taken at my goddaughter's birthday party in the park. Her incredibly talented mother made the pinata for the party!

I photographed some gorgeous little ones over the weekend, at various family and friends' gatherings. They are so adorable!

Jon & Natalie - Rock The Frock (& Suit!) Shoot in Dungeness, Kent

I blogged a little sneak peek of this shoot earlier on in the week. Here is a selection from the rest of the photos.

You may remember that Jon & Natalie had a bit of a Harry Potter theme at their wedding, naming the tables after the Harry Potter books (great idea!) and a Harry Potter quiz for the guests. I asked them to bring something Harry Potter related so that we could incorporate it into the shoot.

I had such fun photographing them, in the glorious sunshine, and their love and happiness really shines through in the pictures.
